hi all please can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong have just fitted a new( well secondhand) auto gearbox with new torque converter to my 3.9 and still it wont drive?? (please dont tell me to fit a manual box) its a known good box and converter and fluid is up as it should be what have i done wrong? when i put the converter in it "dropped" three times into place but i still have no drive can anyone help ???? or have i just missed something stupid?

I take it you fitted torque converter to gearbox first then offered assembly up to vehicle. If you fitted converter to flex plate then fitted gearbox you may have damaged the pump.

pretty sure you should put the torq con in the box then put the box to the engine!!!

Stabbing in the dark here from the details; but you say the flid levels are OK, but unless the Torque converter is full of oil, it wont transmit drive.
Dont know what the specifics in the book say, but is there some procedure to 'prime' the TC you have missed, perhaps?

Check the wiring to the Transfer box shift motor as it's all been disturbed, could well be the transfer box is in neutral.

Hate to appear rude, but did you see the donor vehicle actaully drive with this box in it?
Easy check for pump damage is to remove the pipe that feeds the ATF cooler and see if any ATF is being pumped out of there..........use a bucket in case as there is no mistaking it when it is working

You say fluid level is ok, but if you have just filled to high on dip stick with engine not running there will not be enough fluid in the box. With engine off fluid should come well above full mark. Then as you run engine torque converter fills and the excess oil disappears. When you run engine does oil disappear from dip stick? If it does add oil until there is some at least evident on stick with engine running. Then follow top up instructions as per manufacturer. These units from memory take about 19 pints of fluid. Well over two gallons from empty.

put it in drive and look underneath to see if the propshafts are turning if they are the problem is either a broken halfshaft or diff. if not then problem is gearbox or transfer box
