Why oh Why - Disco Headlamps

Over the weekend one of my Dipped bulbs blew.

So removed the grille on my Facelift Disco 2, tried to remove the screws holding the lamp assembly in situ. Success with side screw, but cannot remove the tops.

Why oh Why did Land Rover use fasteners that corrode.!!!!

Any tips besides gallons of WD40, one has already sheared.

I am not intending to purchase new assemblies, so I intend to drill and re-tap and use fasteners that will not corrode.

Any clues ??

The other thing to question, as I cannot at present remove the Headlamp. If I removed the Air filter box can I get access to the Dip bulb.

thanks

Hi Welshdisco. If i remember correctly you can remove the whole lamp assembly by undoing the adjuster screws on top (the star shaped ones) or the allen key style ones (the ones marked A and B). Which ones have sheared on yours?

Anyone know what the V1 and V2 adjusters do on the back the headlights?
Dip and main vertical??

There are two adjusters on each headlight unit and they set only the dipped headlight, the main beam just points where it wants to, after all it's beam setting isn't part of the MoT.
The "inboard" adjuster sets the vertical and the outboard adjuster sets the horizontal. The recommended setting is 1.2% down and parallel to straight ahead.
