Why did you buy a disco!!

Bought mine as I wanted another 4x4. Previous vehicle was a Mazda Bongo. In our house we have 3 cars and I wanted to have the tow anything go anywhere truck. LR are common so add-ons and spares are easy to come by.

So anyone else looking forward to the snow...I am. ;-)

Oh yeah, bring on the snow!!

I bought mine cos I had a pristine Tarmac drive and I thought it would look much better with patches of engine oil, gearbox oil, transmission oil and patches of transmission fluid. Not to mention bits of rust that is left behind every time I drive off.
However, having said all that I would not trade it for anything else!

We bought ours after having and abusing a ZJ for 5 years, got to expensive to run (4.o petrol) but need a full size 4x4. The short list had to be diesel and cheap to get parts for (£180 for a bearing for the Jeep ) So I narowed it to a Disco, Terrano and a Trooper. Wife didn't like the trooper and like everyone else I had spent to long not getting my hands dirty so the only choice was a Disco. It was then just a case of trying to find the worst one I could. Not a day gone by yet where I haven't had to do something

coz my teenage daughters hate it..lol so i make sure i take it with me when i pick them up from discos ha ha..got to love them

i couldn't with live a fender on a day to day basis. Freelanders are gay. Range rovers are for posers. The 7 seat disco is the most practical land rover by a long shot.

Because I have had 2 classics and a P38 and thought it might be fun. Found a great example which was immaculate inside, only 72k and a very good price. Then I realised that the previous owner obviously had a dog with halitosys that had **** itself in the back... Still, another 25 valets and I'll be fine. And it stops the kids asking "are we nearly there yet?" as they ask "what the **** is that stink?" instead and me and the wife laugh...

got mine for a number of reasons, had me first car (pug 106) had a petrolheads car (alfa 147) had a brand new un' (citroen c2 VTS) had a ig 5 door un' (vectra) had a fast un' (Mazda RX8 PZ) which i still miss dearly, but high running costs (high like £80 to do less than 200 miles and £415 p/a road tax, plus £2800 for a n engine rebuild) then being stuck in the slightest bit of snow or ice. So i thought i've not done the 4x4 thing yet, so i looked at fenders, but (and here comes my excuse) i needed an 'L' reg or newer to put my private plates onto, and had £2500, so a disco it was. Spent a few months trawling for a good un' and found her, 95' 300tdi on an 'N' winch/winch bumper, M/T's wading kit, steering and diff guards and went off roading and have never looked back. Don't go offroading anymore as im feared of breaking her, so invested in a nice set of ES alloys and a set of chunky A/T's, some clear indicators to tidy her up, decent CB for some laning, and she's never missed a beat. The bloke who had her had all the welding done, receipts into the ££££'s... hopefull i got a good un'

just waxoyled her again myself this weekend, had her serviced in june, gonna stump up for a bigger leisure battery for winter time... love the disco me

Because a Defender was way too much, so I got a 98 300 tdi ES that had been thrown off a cliff and used as a football by a team of dumper trucks.
After much money spent on brakes, oil leaks, welding blah blah blah, I love it almost as much as 'er indoors does.

I drove a mate of mine round his shooting haunts in his 300 and to be honest before I got behind the wheel I could take or leave them as I'd always leaned towards southend seafront/kfc car park dwelling vehicles. I was grinning the whole trip and literally set about eBay that day looking for one. I've had my 300 Tdi for 18 months now (not without a few problems) and to be honest I am in love with it.

I only bought a Disco because I had no idea how badly made Land rovers are and I have paid for the mistake ever since. However, I am determined not to be beaten by this piece of absolute c**p with the constant oil leaks, overheating, radiator cracks/leaks, expansion tank leaks, warped cylinder head, failing brake pipes and master cylinders, leaking diesel, constant vibration issues with the suspension and steering and finally c**p disintegrating plastic trim and knackered window winding mechanisms.
Maybe I am missing some items here, but I am sure my Disco will realise this and attend to them in due course!

in hindsight i think i just wanted an excuse to buy a mig

I was given mine for doing a cambelt and water pump change on my friends V6 Omega. I used to have an LSE about 10 years ago and loved it so i've decided to sell one of my Omegas and keep the Discovery. Its a bit of a nail but i'll soon have it sorted

Comfier than a Defender, a few mods and better off road than a Defender.
Perfect all-rounder with a 100" wheelbase
Don't let those Defender boys tell you other wise

You will never get a disco better off road than an 90, the weight difference makes a huge difference.

And the body width of a disco doesn't help in many situations.

Defender is the better off roader in many situations, other times disco and defender other are equal.

a lot depends on what you use your "off roader" for, theres a world of difference between playing in an old quarry on the odd sunday morning and towing a loaded tandem axle trailer on maintained tracks or smooth fields 5 days a week.

Because I couldn't afford a Defender, and JP told me it was in really good condition for a Discovery Took it down a few lanes, and it's been broken since :lol: Going in next week for MOT and to be sorted hopefully though!

Had a Hilux and a Jeep Cherokee beforehand, both of which had their plus points, but all round, I do actually prefer driving the Landy (when it's working).

i bought mine cos it was only 150 quid with tax and test,been the best vehicle i have had.good for towing,good for playing in.what more can you ask for?
i like it so much i just bought another one yesterday!
