Hi,

i have 98 4.6HSE. The car drives really well and smooth but when you hit 90mph it starts vibrating and it gets worse as you increase. Now i know 90mph is illegal but still the car should not do this. I had the wheels balanced last week but still the problem is there. The car is fine up until 80-85 the n once you hit 90 the vibrate comes. Any ideas guys?

Cheers

My classic will do 90 (on a private road, signed waivers, legal boxes ticked, wearing hi-vis and safety goggles etc ;) ) but it feeels like theres just tons of air pileing up on the front cos its brick shaped! Will push on past that but things get scary from there

where are you feeling the vibes?

you really shouldnt be doing over 70 mph tho!! the p38 isnt the most stable car in the world at the best of times and at 90mph it only takes a bit of debris in the road and your on the roof!

Hi.
You should check propshafts for any play......none allowed i'm afraid as mine had tiny amount and did the vibrate thing from 70......changed the joints and all was good. Later models have to have the whole prop changed.

Cheers, Nick.

The vibes are through the whole car. I know i shouldnt be doing over 70 but what can i say i had 3ltr sport x-type before and driving fast was fun and i need a release now and again. I want tell you how fast i've had it then! :O I've never found the handling to be poor it holds the road like glue!

I'll need to have a look at the propshafts. So no play at all? Would the steering damper have anything to with the vibes? I also get a terrible shudder when i hit a bump at 40+

Anything that rotates that is out of balance or has slack in the joints will cause vibration, propshafts would be first suspect. The bump thing is a bit of side-effect of beam axelled cars, compared to the independent suspension you're used to... unless it's really bad in which case check all the front bushes for play.

depending on how bad a bump it is i have to work to keep it in control. It run off track and i have to correct it. It's difficult to explain.
