Hi all wonder if you can help? We have had our disco for over a year now and spent the best part of four grand just keeping it on the road, new gearbox, ACE system diesel pump.... It has now started to make a noise like a fan belt slipping, trouble it it's intermittent and a certain rev ranges - over 50 it disappears, our trusty mechanic thinks it might be something in the gearbox but it makes the noise if you are standing still. Anyone got any suggestions before I take it and my credit card to the local independent specialists?

Effective diagnosis is the key to running a Disco without breaking the bank.
Don't spend any money until you are sure that the trusty mechanic or anyone else for that matter, has got the right answer.
If you don't want to have a look at it yourself, make sure that you very carefully say "I want that noise diagnosed correctly first time and rectified, with a written quote in advance of the work".
From your description it could be just a slipping belt?????
