Whining

When driving, accelerating there is a whine I think from the back end of my Freelander its just over 3 yrs old, 65k on the clock - any ideas anyone??

Anything in the drive chain rearwards of the gearbox, I suppose. It's a vague answer to a vague symptom. What's the most expensive bit to fix, 'cos it'll be that.....
