which will be easier ? (diff lock light Prob)

i have searched the forum and ther seems to be 2 ways i think to check the bulb ...

take the centre console out and earth the wire to see if the light bulb lights up! and to take the bulb out...this is the one i tried to do..

got the plasic covering off unpluged the wires to the rear wiper etc then got confused as ther is a metal coverin that holds the unit in ???
it doesnt say about this in the haynes manual... is this supose to be ther if so how can i get the unit out ??? i noticed some bolts which were to the metal casing is it these that i need to remove ? or is something else ??

also would you recommend another way off doin it ?

yeh i took the dashbord apart but as i took the plasic bit off with the buttons on (rear wiper and volume control buttons)

ther was a metal coverin on the dash so i couldnt get to the bulb as i couldnt get the console out because of the metal bit how do i get that off ?? please ?
