My Defender 130 300 Tdi has been modified and fully loaded weights now close to teh maximum 3,500 kg.
It will go for a long trip to East Africa and I think about getting double shocks fitted at the rear.
But need probably to go for more heavy duty springs and better shock absorbers than the standard LR ones.
Do you have any experience for springs and shocks for heavy Defenders on African tracks please?
Speed is not the issue but coping wiht pot holes and deep track is...

Thank you

Have a look at my recent thread on Uprating rear springs.

I had HD springs on my last 110 and found that they coped with the load no problem but they were a harsh ride and also limited articulation.

I'm gonna fit assister springs inside my current springs this time as they seem to have the same effect but with a more comfortable ride.

pm Iannotts. I'm getting my springs off him. It works out more expensive than simply uprating to HD springs but I think the difference is a small price to pay for a softer ride.

Have you driven in Africa before?
Where exactly are you going as the road (I use the term lightly) conditions vary from country to country?
If you want to PM me I can give you some advice as I work, and drive, all over Africa.
Go well prepared and you'll have a great time.
