Hi guys,

My disco2 has a seized rear caliper (which went unnoticed for a little while until the horrible burning smell became too bad ), meaning I should change the rear discs and pads really at the same time.

I don't want to pay £60 for a set of LR rear pads as that's silly money for just pads. I certainly want normal discs as I don't do anything particularly demanding with it. Having bought a new caliper from LR (originally got a Britpart one but it just looked poor quality, so went with an original), I want a cheapish set of discs and pads which are good quality ie not britpart.

Could anyone suggest a brand and supplier that offers reasonable quality but better economy than LR?

There are plenty on ebay, the discs are usually pretty good whoever you buy from, but I'd try and buy a brand name for the pads.

You can get a pair of new discs and Mintex pads for about £45 plus post.

We bought new front discs on ebay last year and they have been fine, no problems at all in 13K miles. I wouldn't buy pads that are unbranded, Mintex, Delphi etc are good.

Here's where we got them from:

Ebay 150178500186.

Hi take a look at the EBC web site, the green stuff pads are better quality than OE and slightly cheaper.

I have always used genuine parts brake pads on past and present LR's. I tried Mintex once and they only lasted 8,000 one year.

I change my disco's front pads a few months ago and I am trying out EBC Ultimax pads and have found then better the the LR ones they replaced, they do grab better but I will have to wait and see if they last longer than 38,000 miles. The EBC pads were a third of the price of the genuine parts, same as the brands available ie. Mintex.

I have never had to replace disks so I've no info on them, but I see EBC also supply them.
