Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and my post is a bit of an odd one but one you can hopefully help me with.
My dad is 73 this year. He's worked bloody hard all his life (and still does) and has decided he deserves, as far as he is concerned, the ultimate vehicle........a Range Rover.
I've been given the enjoyable task of finding him one.:)
Basically I know begger all about Range Rovers & so this is my first stop to get some useful info from the people that do know.
His budget is up to £40k but he obviously doesn't want to spend money he doesn't need to. If he can get what he want's for £25k then he'd be more than happy obviously!
He's gadget mad and would like all the worthwhile toys.
He's only given 4 specific requests -

1. Paint - Black
2. Interior - Cream
3. Fuel - Diesel
4. Mileage - Under 40k miles

So where do I start?
Which model should I be going for (which is the most reliable).
Is there anything specific to look out for with that model?
Is there any MUST have extras for resale?
etc. etc.

Any help would be REALLY appreciated just to get me pointed in the right direction if nothing else.

Thanks in advance............I now bow to your significant RR knowledge and hope you will help.

Steve

Well he will be kept busy with a range rover ! There hobbies on their own !!!
Lol

Well with that budget you should be able to get a newish vogue
I would say the tdv8 as it's a bit more powerful !
Don't get a sport - there's too many chavved up ones on the roads lol

TDV8 has to be the way to go, its the only decent diesel engine in a Rangie. £40K will buy you a nice one and get it from a main dealer so you get a few years warranty (Land Rover warranty is the only one worth having)

£25K on a vehicle will only get you sale of goods act (90 day guarantee) unless you source it through the main dealer network where they will throw in 12 months cover.

Spending over £25K on a motor, a guarantee would be top of my shopping list. It will fleece you in depreciation so having to pay for repairs on top would be irritating to say the least.

As above really, that budget will get a nice TDV8 car and at those prices I would being going to a main dealer for the inspection/warranty - as fortgrange said, any problems would really annoy you at this price bracket if not fixed immediately!

I wouldn't discount the RR Sport though - they're not all chavved up on 22" wheels. I live in the country and am planning on getting one next summer, it'll be used on tracks, across fields and offroad and will cope just as well as the "Full Fat" Range Rover :)

Best bet is to take him to your local Land Rover dealer and get him to test drive both, see which he prefers and then get them to source one - they will have access to the entire dealer network so should be able to accomodate his requests.
