Which oil in Defender 90 300 TDI?

Just wondered which oil people recommend for their 300 TDI engines? Have been using 10w 40, any views appreciated.

Use whale oil its organic and a renewable resource, good for the environment

10w40,15w/40 all okay,better to get slightly higher detergent as in van/fleet oil from local motor factors

My 300TDI has used Castrol Diesel Magnatec 10W40 since the main dealer re-filled the engine with it at the initial 1000-mile change and I have used the same stuff ever since. I change it every 6-months (usually about 2-3K miles) and it has never given me any cause for concern. I buy from Costco as they usually charge only slightly more for 8L than places like Halfords charge for 4L.

Just treated my 300Tdi Disco to a dealer service today and they used Castrol Magnatec 10W40. Looks like I got charged for 10 litres, though. Oh well.

How much per litre?

Just reading the invoice, it says:

Magnatec 10w40- 1/10 (?)
Qty 68.0
Unit price 0.70
Total 42.84 (+VAT)

I'll stick to tractor oil and doing it myself.

I've been using tractor oil since I worked for a farmer a few years back and I thought if it's good enough for his £100k combine harvester it's got to be good enough for an old landie..........and it's a bugger load cheaper anorl .

morris 15/40 will do the job
