Which of the many belt tensioners needed for TD4?

Hi all...

I know a few of you have done the aux belts yourselves when I did mucho searching so maybe you can help!

I need to replace the aircon tensioner which appears to be this one:

PQG100340L-PR2 ALLMAKES OE Tensioner-Ancil-Land Rover Parts Direct

I also want to replace the other tensioner with the 24mm nut bit which is this one:

Tensioner Idler - PQR000080 | Freelander, Range Rover L322 | Land Rover, Range Rover | British Parts UK

Now, the big question- why are two other tensioners listed? One is this one:

BELT TENSIONER, V-RIBBED BELT BMW,LAND ROVER 534 0171 10 BY INA | eBay

The other is this one:

LAND ROVER FREELANDER (LN) Drive Belt Tensioner - SKF VKM 38240 | eBay

I'm assuming the silver last one is the idler (fixed) for the alternator etc belt? If so, I want to replace that one too, but what is the one above it, the black one with two mounting holes for??? My car is a 2004 TD4.

Hi you need the top two and the bottom one.

The black one with two bolt holes is the spring loaded tensioner which the 2nd item fits into

One of my auxiliary belts started to squeal tonight.

Too dark to see which one it is. According to Haynes manual it is automatic so i guess a belt needs replacing. Is it an easy job? does the under tray really need to be removed as per the Haynes manual?

Or do I need to replace my tensioners as per the OP?

I feel like I'm having a blonde moment - looking at the above post, the black one with the 2 bolt holes is the 3rd one, which td4van states is not required, but the 2nd item fits into it, so surely you need all 4 items? or have I missed something.

When you see it as separate parts it makes sense - trust me

The second item with the arm on it slides through the black unit which is bolted to the engine, and then is secured with a nut.

If the belt is held taut then the black unit which is a spring loaded tensioner is ok and shouldn't need replacing.

I checked mine today. The belts looked in very good condition, both of them. They also looked fine tension wise, but under load there is a squeal coming from somewhere. It reminds me of an old cars fanbelt going. It only occurs under load and generally in 3rd gear at a guess.

I'm stumped as to what it is at the moment. There are no lights on the dash, so alternator working fine, and the air con apears to be working fine too.

Maybe the silver one which is just an idler? Mine was the aircon compressor clutch bearing and the aircon belt tensioner. Both made a dry bearing graunching noise though, not a squeal.

None of mine made a sound when turned by hand, so not so easy to find what is causing the squeal.....

I've had alternator bearings squeal in the past after some muppet washed under the engine bay with degreaser which got in there.

Hi had the same problem thinking it was a tensioner because my belt looked fine but i still went ahead and changed it and the the noise has since stopped.

Maybe I should replace anyway. I think the belts are cheaper than tensioners.
