I"ve been reading an article in Landrover magazine on how to fit Spotlights to front of Mark i Freelander and the bloke says "He took off the Front Upper Grille the one with the L R Oval which is clipped into place on the lower edge then secured with Posidrv screws to the SLAM PANEL. So which is the SLAM PANEL and do I need to remove the Bumper to do this?
Happy and Safer New Year to all Members.

Maybe old ones had a separate grille but whole bumper has to come off to fit lamp brackets and run wires.
See my TD4 restoration thread as I fitted a new set of specs to mine earlier this year.

Bumper is screws on under engine cover, screws to wheel arch liners, screws on the slam panel (now you know what that is!!!) and some plastic scrivets near the number plate. Lastly a bolt each side that you can access through the slide plastic cover in the wheel arch. This cover is meant for changing indicator bulbs.

Helps to wash the arches with a pressure washer before going in!!!
Simply use a feed from the main beam circuit, through a switch to a relay and then fuse the relay feed to the lamps.

Thanks Andy, Does that mean I can remove that upper grill when I have the Bumper off because I quite fancy replacing it with proper Grill Mesh similar to the Facelift one?
Cheers

Thanks again for that. Once this weather improves I"ll go outside and have a go but for now I"m going to stay in doors with a glass of whisky and watch the Rugby on the telly. I follow Exeter Chiefs but they got thrashed yesterday by Wasps.
All the best.
