Which Fuel Pump?

Early 2004 built models had 2 pumps - one in the tank and the other under the bonnet along with the fuel filter.

Later 2004 models - actually MY2005 spec - have only one pump along with the fuel filter in the offside rear wheel arch (stupid location)

You normally cant hear the pump running due to the engine noise covering it up - but it must run all the time the engine is running.

If you can clearly hear it as you drive along I would reckon it's pretty nearly kaput.

Hi all,

A 2002 TD4 here - how many fuel pumps does it have and where are they/is it located? (not sure the pump is/are the problem yet, but just in case...)

the dreaded fuel pump!!!! I have a 2006 (56) and on my second (soon to be third) fuel pump. my mechanic changed my fuel pump as the car went into limp home mode above 2500revs, the pump is the one behind the drivers rear wheel. i bought a relacement from ebay for £50 and has lasted a year, I will going back to land rover to get the original part as the extra £70 is worth it. The ebay specials are ok but god,are they noisy so my advice is pay extra !

I've just fitted a new LP pump and bought from Famous Four, LR wanted app £180 and FF wanted just over £120 both pumps being made by the same company.

they changed them in 2002 one is in the tank easy to get to just fold seat forward undo the carpet and take the cover off about 6 screws then you need to pull the pipes out by squeezing the ends and pulling then it is like the lid of a jar there is a special spanner but you can get away with a hammer and drift going anti clockwise to undo that is the high presure pump the low presure is the one you have the photo of next to the filter be carefull taking it out and do not damage the top on the filter they are costly hope this helps

Dont know the full story here , but sounds like as usual you've had your pants pulled down, don't know the full tech of this one but maybe someone can correct me on this . On the td4 so far there was 2x systems of pump [1] one pump [under wheel arch] [ 2 ] 2x pump one under rear of motor with a fuel sender unit, two a lifter pump under r/h wheel arch. . .in this case its more likely that the one in the rear that will pack up. . .but not a guarantee. . . but as for the maf sensor as well . . . well I'm a real sinick , but i very much doubt it. . . more likely one of the pumps went u/s. . .sorry bout my neg thoughts. . . .Ming
my td4 has intank pump sender and filter and pump under bonnet only later td4 are under wheel arch
