Hi All,
Thank you in advance.
I am looking at buying a freelander for around £3500.
Which model/year would you advise I go for? I won't be off roading, just general everyday use.
Thank you

James

I'm presuming you want a Freelander 1? You won't get a Freelander 2 for that sort of money. That being the case, as late a model as you can get TD4 Sport. FL1's go up to 2006. My preference would be for the 3 door as they look better in my opinion. Number of doors depends on your own preference and the intended use.

Thank you.
What sort of money do the freelander 2 go for? I could spend a bit more. Just want to get the best I can afford.

An early high mileage FL2 will set you back over £4K for well looked after, unwanted base model. £20K plus will get you a late HSE.
If you don't want to go off road, why get an all terrain vehicle at all? You can get a very nice Mondeo for the same price as an older Freelander. ;)

After 3 months owning a FL1 2001 Td4 GS Auto with 130.000 on the clock, which needed a bit of TLC, we have found ours to be a cracking work horse, and got her for £750.00

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, I (N not J that is!) would recommend one as when you solve a gremlin the smile on your face is immense.

Careful of 2006 year model FL1, some have £500 road tax. Earlier diesels are around £300 tax.
I prefer the auto to manual, makes life alot easier on the road. Other than that buy the best and highest spec you can.
Go for HSE on facelift models mainly 04 onwards, or ES on pre facelift 2000-03. If you find an older L series diesel I believe it's the XEDI model you want.
Cheers
Mike
