Which dampers/coils for ride comfort?

Hey guys,

My D2 is feeling a bit bouncy and jolty - at 120k the shocks and coils are probably naffed. I'm after a set of dampers and coils which will give me 2" of lift and extra travel, but give a better level of ride comfort than what I have now. Currently I'm running 18" alloys with standard size tyres, replacing these with 16" wheels and 275/75 tyres will probably help somewhat.

So any reccomendations for performance and comfort? This is going to be a laner so ultimate off-road performance isn't really needed, it'll get over most things I'm sure.

So far I've been looking at Terrafirma, Monroe, Old Man Emu and Koni products. There's a LOT to choose from and I don't know what I'm looking at other than how many 0's after the "£"!!

Anyone got any input :)?

though yours was air at rear ,has it got ace

Yes it is air at the rear so will only need front coils. No ACE unfortunately :(. It corners fine it's just you can feel every pebble in the friggin road. It's nowhere near as nice as the hippo and more of our roads are going to **** every year.

I figure its just a heavier car and needs fresh bits. So far Koni and TF are the front runners, OME is overkill and monroe don't seem to do +"" dampers for D2. TF is a great price too and the reviews look good. The few bad reviews sounds like muppetry in the fitting - back to front coils and the like. NOTHING could be that bad if it was properly fitted.
 
air does wallow worse than coils on poor roads ,ace makes a big difference not just on cornering, but new springs should help but not at the rear ,new gas shocks

It's not wallowing as such its jut not ironing out the bumps. It's not firm but it's not floaty either, maybe thats just how tratters are? The rear feels relatively ok to me, its the front which feels off.

All I can say is the the hippo feels really even and absorbs the rough stuff, the D2 doesnt as much.

mine rides well but its not a car on rough roads,dont forget youve got 2 heavy unsprung axles and a car that weighs over 2 ton, but a 10 year old car is going to have worn out bits on it,including springs ,shocks ,bushes etc
 
I would put standard springs on the front and check that there is no water in the rear air springs, I have seen them half full. Then fit a set of new shocks and your smaller wheels and get out up them lanes.

Hehe sounds good. So I assume it would be best to fit 40mm spacers front and rear with OEM coils and new shocks. That would give me the lift but without needing HD coils. For some bizarre reason I can find any light duty +" coils for the D2 from TF. Is there anyone else who does them? I'd prefer that over front spacers to be honest as it could be wallowy with OEM springs.

springs absorb the impact, dampers control spring. at120 k they'll be fubard.
just fit standards, they'll be well sagged now will the springs and the shocks will be well past their best.

Yes that's a good strategy, but what coils should I fit if I just want a 40mm lift without any extra gear? I'm not planning to fit a winch, and lots of the HD lift springs are designed with extra equipment in mind to get the correct lift. OME do lots but they are very pricey.

also because your raising the center of gravity of an already highish vehicle, stronger springs help counter act that ,id stick with std if your using as a car as well
