All, just about to get my block back. I am on a budget and looking for a load of bits to rebuild it. Anyone got any suppliers they recommend. Island4x4 (mostly britpart), seem the cheapest so far.

Thanks in advance.

Good luck on cheap parts!
If you are rebuilding buy the best you can afford use only gen dealer followers

I just bought a bunch of bits from Turner Engineering. Very reasonable prices, excellent service, and next day delivery. A lot of their stuff seems to be genuine LR, but cheap prices - ring them and they'll explain. I'd happily recommend them to anyone based on my experience so far.

i have used a few suppliers over the years, real steel(building up my kitcar engine) were ok,but now i use mostly paddock spares or island 4x4(range rover),i know a lot of people slag off paddocks but they also do oem on lots of stuff, they are cheap, free delivery,i used the head gaskets on my 4.6 done 10k and no problems.island 4x4 seem cheap also oem height sensor £40 dealer would want twice that probably just for it to come with land rover on the box.its your money but just because its more expensive doesnt mean its always better.

Tried most of the main suppliers now for the bits I need. Cheapest by about 100 quid was island4x4. Real steel don't do a cam for the 4.6 or the water pump. The thing I noticed that varies the most from supplier to supplier are the piston rings. Most offer them for under 60 quid but a couple of suppliers sell them for over 120.

Thanks chaps.

The big question. Just because its cheaper doesn't mean it is a lesser quality all the time?

Fett, thanks for that. Just checked the lr direct website, good prices and I like the option of picking the make to. Well put together.

Cheers

thing is they always seem to sell britpart without telling you

Generally speaking, 90% of what comes through LR dealers and the 2nd-tier suppliers is sourced from the same factories, just different packing, so for most bits it's not an issue.

Take a front timing cover for a Thor V8, £200 from Island, £700 from Rimmer. I can't belive that anyone is going to set up a die-casting line for that item, it must come from Hobourn-Eaton.

For safety-critical parts like seals, I'll always get original through our local dealer, Marshalls.

them chinese will cast anything for anything.

I heard there was a lot of brit part rocker arms going round made in china using 100k miles used one as a pattern

I dunno if its true, but was an engine builder who told me and he wasnt trying to sell me owt at the time
