Series 3 Where to fit a vacuum gauge pipe?

Hi,
I have a series 3 2.25 petrol in my S1 LWB and am looking at fitting a vacuum gauge. It's running on a Zenith carb.
Would the pipe running from the gauge attach to the carb or fit to the manifold via the adapter for the brake vacuum pipe?
Haven't bought a gauge yet as looking to nice a pretty period item but are they generic or does it have to be a certain type?

Normally from a tapping on the inlet manifold.
