whilst standing looking into engine bay from front of landrover , on
left hand side of cylinder block right at front of block and just below
cylinder head it has engine number stamped in large letters and
numbers .
it will have something like 16L15939A although i dont know what actual
numbers relate to youre year .
if you have no number there take a closer look to see if on area it
should be it has been ground off with angle grinder or if someone has
used a carbide burr to remove number .
the actual number can be retreived with specialist eqpt used by police
..
if no engine number is there then chances are the engine is a ringer ,
it could be a recon engine but usually they would display the orignal
number they came with from factory , none of the remanufacturers would
usually remove and engine number for a reason other than it was a
little chaud .
unfortunately many a landrover or discovery get made into vehicles
containing parts from other vehicles .
did you do an HPI check on the vehicle at all, did it check out clear
or not .
for info there should be a VIN plate in the engine bay , and also one
at bottom of windscreen just under where tax disc goes clearly visible
from outside of car .
chassis number is on drivers side right at front just back from bumper
, that should tally up with the VIN number .
VIN is something like SALLDVAFVA957000 but again i dont know what
corresponds with 1998 disco .
i did once almost buy a lovely looking 110 landy , but luckily i did
HPI check and it came up as 2 vehicles , one which was written off in
2000 and the other which was declared as being scrapped in 2001 .
there was no VIN pl ate in the engine bay but was one in windscreen ,
chassis number was tampered with as was engine number .
it had a lovely chassis, nice and black coated , but one mistake, the
wiring harness was on outside of chassis , a sure telltale of someone
working on it extensively .
you might see something like GB97 or GB98 stamped into chassis in
various places also .
