Hello,

My stock 1995 300tdi has a device of some sort in the fuel line at the back of the vehicle which looks like a filter of some sort, and also a filter with hand drain point at the front of the vehicle in the engine bay.

When I open the hand valve below the filter bowel on the device at the front, only clean fuel always comes out (no water, no sediment so far). This filter is not shown in my manual.

What is the purpose of the device at the rear ? and how do I open it if it is a filter ?

Hi Jason the sedimentor has a single long bolt at the top of the housing 10mm spanner needed, put a carrier bag around bowl (free in england) to catch diesel and clean it out, there is no filter element in there, you can drain it first via the plug on the bottom but these are usually seized and snap off hope this helps oh and if you have some clean diesel to hand fill the bowl before replacing this will reduce the amount of air in the system.

Cleaned mine out today, took me about 20 mins to do.
It's a bit of a bastard to get to on your back on the drive.
The bolt that holds the sedimentor on was 11mm on mine.
Check the rubber seal when you remove the bowl.
I replaced mine ( probably didn't need to).
