Okay, one possibly for all you legal beagles. Bought a disco2 facelift 2003 with lpg (few pennys knocked off for part ex our old vectra), lovely vehicle inside and out...
Okay well...
Had it 3 days it overheated and cut out taking headgaskets and coolant with it, we bought it from a dealer and following MHMs advice from the having bought crock of **** thread, we rung the dealer up and told em it wasnt fit for purpose etc etc dealer said well can you get vehicle to us so we can get our mechanic to look ever it?? Checked with the RAC patrolman who was still out at the scene with us (talking about landrovers in between times as he has a couple himself) and he said yep your recovery covers that... So... RAC got us recovered us back to the dealership where it was bought from, and were given the vectra that was traded in back and the guy said right we'll get HG fixed and run about in it and give it a good test and that'll be end of that.
Got vehicle back on Tues 5th and it was all fine (well it went with a big trailer and picked up my series 3 with no signs of getting hot up or what have you - apart from transmission which in the end turned out to be 2 litres short of ATF
- different story) ran around in it for the whole week inlcuding doing a run to ferrybridge services and back on friday to drop some people off and then going down again sunday aft to get them and fetch back, obviously this was motorway running and being a v8 it was doing lane 3 motorway speeds quite happily, again temp never budged. Went down to york for a meal, decided to go see a film (called Unknown if anyones that nosey
and its good one!) set off home, came to the roundabout which our junction to go up to thirsk came of roundabout and temp needle started to climb rather quick saw which billowing out the back with the words oh for ****s sake not again rolling off my toungue, got stopped just as red light came on. Pipes where unsqueezable like the last time it happened, the cooling system was pressurised to exploading point, got expansion cap off - no coolant in the tank, no coolant in any pipes... **** its happened again... There was this strange copper stuff in there that i pointed out to the RAC patrol man (different guy luckily!!) and asked him was it that headgasket seal in a bottle stuff to which his reply was 'looks a bit that way doesnt it' he also pointed out that none of the headbolts had tool marks on and where all rusty so they cant have been taken off unless the person is very careful when removing bolts and also a risk taker by reusing stretch-bolts (i know it CAN be done.. but its not ideal really for a supposed 'garage' to do it)
Now where do we stand with this... Is it worth ignoring the fact the headgasket is highly unlikely to have been done and tell him it needs a recon engine as the liners must have slipped as the 'new headgaskets' only lasted 5 days - if so has someone got/know of a piece of offical looking paper somewhere saying this is the case - the guy we're dealing with is a tightarsed pain in the arse who knows **** all about landrovers (tried telling me that the suspension didnt rise up on a button and it was only SLS not manuably adjustable.. that sortof said it all with regard to his knowledge!).
Or do we just go for our money back and walk away - be a shame cause the only let down on the whole vehicle is the headgaskets going
Any help/info/advice would be absolubtly brilliant!!
And i have searched google before anyone says search, but i have no idea what to search for really!!
