I just stuck a spankin new head on my 300 as mine had cracked and also scored a new Turbo as the old one was filling the intercooler up with oil on a weekly basis and appeared to have no blow. New Turbo fitted and it seems to have a bit more poke but it still doesn't start to come on boost till 2200 rpm and is at full chat at 2500 which I don't think is right. A mate of mine has a 300 which boosts 500 rpm earlier. I've checked all the hoses (most of them I've replaced anyway) and they all seem to be fine. Is it boosting too late or am I expecting too much.

i,m not all that clued up on turbos mate, buy its maybe just the actuater on the turbo that needs adjusted to give it more boost, but i,m sure someone with more knowledge will come along soon..

Yes but, they wont just 'adjust' themselves, so if the boost is off, it likely points to another problem and not just a wrong actuator rod setting.

To adjust the rod it needs to be taken off the wastegate first, i tried but i could not do this without taking the manifold/turbo off first.

I have a boost gauge to install. It is a brand new out of the box turbo and actuator that I have fitted and I'm reluctant to go at it with mole grips and chuff around with the actuator. I've had turbo'd vehicles for years so I'm no stranger to the workings of a turbo. I was just curious how other peoples 300's behave. I had my suspicions that my mates one had been tinkered with before he got it, but if his is the norm then I'll have to investigate further. When it is at full song it pulls much better than with the old Turbo, just a bit too late for my liking.
