I went to a pay and play at the weekend it was my first outing in my new defender, I drove through a water/bog bit not a problem with the diff not locked, later on in the day I went back through but I had the diff lock in and got stuck, got pulled our, then had another go without the diff lock in and not a problem went straight through.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I get what you mean and yeah straight away after no one else had been through. I noticed this all day and as the day went on the routes got my dug up n messey. It's as such that when I lock the diff I loose drive to either front or back.

Its a mystery mate. There is no logical reason why locking the diff would lessen performance in the muck.

Possibly a psychological reason, either you were more confident so you gunned it more and lost traction, or you thought you could go through slower and lost momentum?

Just a thought

Maybe I'll get it jacked up tomorrow and check everything and try again on Sunday, this time I will make sure my window is shut properly a to not fill the cab with mud again.

Just a thought but you dont have your locked and unlocked reversed? Locked should be hard over to the left and unlocked back to the right.

Yeah it's all right, this is my second 300 tdi defender and done a few pay and Plays in my first defender.

maybe just maybe..........

you cant drive:D
damit i new there was somthing i was missing, maybe its not the diff lock but the tool in the driver seat,

you maybe on to somthing here.

maybe the 4 new mud tyres that went on yesterday might help alittle tho,

well after lots of research at a very boggy frickley yesterday (with 4 matching mud tyres) i came accorss this problem once or twice it just seam that for some reason even tho the diff lock light has come on it hasnt locked, by lunch time this was not a problem as the place was that chewed up my diff lock was been used to get from one place to another and it seamed to worked as it should as i went places in my 90 with nexen mud tyres that people with special tracks were having trouble.
