Wheezing/whining noise from engine when accelerating

Hi

Can anyone help me diagnose the possible cause of the following to my Freelander 1999 3 door diesel L Series:

When accelerating in any gear through 2000 - 2500 rpm I get a whining or wheezing sound coming from the engine - sound like a sowing machine!!. It just suddenly started. The sound disappears when slowing down or accelerating keeping the revs low. There are no signs of problem to starting or general running of the engine.

Anyone help please

sounds like an air leak form summat. loose hose eyc. or venting from the breather. (if the heads going)
