hi all , i have just purchased a series 3 truck cab,and am in the middle of finding, and adding some bits to it,to make it look at bit nicer, and was just wondering if anyone had any pics of any series 3's with big wheels and tires on them, and how will this efect handeling? i was thinking 31x10.5r15 as they are the same hight and wont effect the speedo :) thanx

Ahhh well I'm on 235,75,15's

Anyway onto the OP's Q, if you're wanting ground clearance than obviously your same height tyres wont grant this.
With added width your handling will be worse and if chunky in the wet you could aquaplane (mate had this problem with his MT's on the motorway) also with added width it wont be as great in the snow.
Theres a reason the army use skinny tyres, wide wheels in general give a greater surface area for slipping in bad weather

okay well i was thinking,if i get some white 8 spoke steels, with maby 235/85r16's they will stick out a bit more, and will be the same sort of hight ,as the 7.50's are nearly the same, but im not looking for more clearance,in my view they have enough anyway, but just want it to be wider, but same sort of size tires realy

putting wide tyres on a series will increase steering load quite a bit , hope you are a big strong lad!!

They also tend to wander more , not that they need that increased JMHO

265/75/16's will look like this

Hi

If I wanted original style and sized tyres and wheels what should I be looking out for on a 1972 Series III SWB.

I have these chrome type ones on just now and they're great for running around, but not really hot off road.

I bought chunkier more "land rover" like wheels and tyres from eBay, but they slow the car down! Make it heavier to steer, it's awful in the rain, and I'm not sure they'd pass an MOT. I've attached the only pic that kind of shows them that I can find, and before anyone slags me off, I didn't do that to it, my mate did!

Any ideas fellas what I should be going for then?

Cheers

Ken

Oh, and my eBay Land Rover tyres, I'm told are for a LWB so they rub on the springs at full lock and are a bit big and therefore put the speedo out.

Would you like further information? I appreciate I am hardly journalistic with my writing skills, but I think I gave enough information to give helpers an idea of what I'm looking for.

Let me know, what other information you feel you are missing.

Thanks

well i tried somwe white wellers ( 8 spokes) wid some bfg, trac edge,750r16 and they are nice, they come out right, and they are the origonal size so they cant screw the speedo up ,cheers for the info tho,i will go for these coz the 265's are going to be abit silly for steering so thanx everyone tho :)

hello, i have 255/85-16 bfg mud terrain in my s3 lwb. it feels like some one has stolen 50hp... i tried 235/85-16 bfg mud terrain and they feel better. mud terrains have about 2-5mm more grip than allterrain.

My Series III came with Goodyear Hi Miler Xtra grips, which I had re-cut twice in the 8 years I had them on.
