Them tyres are 68mm bigger in diameter than 235/70/16 how much of a cut wud be needed?

depends on the car spence mine only needed the camel cut on the rear arches and cutting of the front bumper end caps but others complain of rubbing on the lip of the wings.

think it would also depend on what wheels you use, welllers/modulars have a larger offset and push the tyre closer to the wings.

What difference, if any, does changing the outside diameter of a tire have on the speedo reading? If, for for example, I went from my current 255/65 r16 to a 255/70 r16, would my speedo be off?

Presumably I would be travelling faster than I thought, as each revolution would cover more ground?

And before the flaming commences, I know about the sticky and that the difference wouldn't be much!!!

Cos I don't know. I assume I was right by your reply though. I just don't want to be doing 42 say when my speedo reads 40.

you drive a land rover so your speedo is probably way out anyway ;), the only way to get an accurate reading would be to use gps

the sticky at the top has 2 links, one advises on what may need to be done to fit larger tyres and the other tells you how your speedo is affected.

my speedo on standard tyres (205/80r16) runs about 5mph out on average (clock says 60 but gps says 55). after fitting the 265s my speedo is much more accurate but it has affected the comfort & handling which is why i keep the smaller road tyres for day to day use.
