my disco 2 wheel nut on the front wheels have expanded over time due to what ever reason.. (they are standard ones for alloys) and so there are quite a few which no longer fit a 27mm hex socket.. does anyone know the best solution, either get a Witworth 5/8 socket or 28mm socket? or should i buy a couple of new nuts? cheapest option is best for me to be honest but if there is any danger in keeping the old nuts then obviously I'm going to have fork out the extra money for a dozen new ones!

i just use a 28mm socket,no probs.

cheers for the link! I'm going to go with 5 new ones for £15! great deal, and that should cover all the ones that have expanded :)

:)

Don't think they like to come off without breaking tbh - I just lump hammered a socket onto mine to get them off, but then I've been on steels for 3 years now so no longer have this problem.

if the outer covers are no good anyway, just replace that part, save buying the full nut and cover.easier just to use a 28 mm socket though, and cheaper.lol.:D

sorry not been on in a while! been busy doing my dissertation :/ and as bennehboy said its rust thats made it expand but i don't think you can take the nut covers off.. atleast i haven't managed to until yet. i ended up buying a witworth I'm sure it will come in more handy than new nuts would.

the nut covers do come off, cesi,i have got some in my bitsa box.You can buy a plastic nut cover remover that takes them off so you can use the 27 mm socket.

ahh right have you got a link to one of these plastic nut cover removers? i might invest :)

The plastic tool is only used for the removal of the locking nut cover the one with the dimple in it, the other four nuts don't have detachable covers.

If you have problems with the wheel nuts due to rust or what ever just replace them with new ones, they are available.
