OK folks,
swapping out the hubs and come to the point where i find out that firstly I have the long cable version so way way too much but worse there is no plug just bare wires.
So does the polarity matter or not?

the rest is all going as per the workshop manual with no problems.

I think the ones you have are meant to be wired directly into the SLABS box, probably the earlier version. Somebody will be along to confirm that or shoot me down.... You could cut the plug off the old one and solder it on to the new cable, just join the same colours together (black and white if I recall).

Yes we thought that but when we stripped the old cable both wires are white and now we don’t know which way round it was.. oops

Come to think of it, it shouldn't matter - the sensor is only a coil that has a current induced in it as the castelations of the ring pass under it. Make a temporary joint and try it out, if you get amigos, then swap it over!

I just checked a plug I had cut off and kept after the last time I changed a sensor, and it has a black and white wire in it, but I don't think it matters.

No worries, it doesnt matter, better go to a scrapyard and get two plugs from a disabled vehicle and solder those to your wiring then you can plug in the hub's sensor every time you change it
