Well me noo wheels n tyres are on the 90 now but the spare on the back is bloody heavy. I'm worried that the mounting plate will fracture under the extra weight.

Anyone using rear wheel carriers on theirs?

Is the Mantec one worth the extra money?

Its not an extra cost that I really need right now. No times a good time really but it will be cheaper than repairing a fooked rear door if it falls off and it don't half wobble when the door closed.

if yer in the habit of slaming the rear door shut from a distance the door frame is going to take a beating - that's what's happened to mine - it just gets welded back together when it goes

adding a much larger front and back plate to the existing wheel holder is the way to go - and close the door without slamming it

Ive had a handful of ****ed doors, ****ed when i bought them though.

The first one (£5, ebay) was a quick fit it when i did the hardtop conversion. That was completely banana shaped, you could fit fingers in the top and bottom easily - all the frame had split from the spare wheel.

Door # 2, (£10, ebay) looked really good, no spare wheel carrier. Shut it a bit harder than normal one day, a crack that had been fillered over where the wiper used to go through opened up and so the window broke.

Door # 3, (£2.19, ebay, still on now) an ex Scottich Power 110 door, slightlybent but the fram has all been reinforced where it suffers.

My spare wheel has always been inside though, on the old truck cab spare wheel mount. Makes the doors close so much easier.

LMAO, it'll be cheaper for me to replace the door loads of time at those prices.

NICE ONE

Chuck it in the back.
No cost.

Not enough space in a 90 county to store the spare wheel and anyway only a moron has a loose spare wheel bouncing around n the back of a landy.

I've got the paddocks one on mine great wheel carrier but not really suitable for a county as you can't open the door from the inside. while the wheel carriers in the latched position. The Mantec one is nice but very overpriced.

Mantec ones are very well made and will last. I have (dare i say it) a scrapiron racing one (no i didnt buy it, it came with my last 90 and i transfered it to me nooo one :) ) the scorpion one is really well made with greasy-able hinges and a hi-lift mount. It to is built to last a long time. Ive even reversed it flat out into a metal bollard, which smashed the rear glass and STILL ****ed the door! :D

new series door on Ebay, 99p :D

no damage to the carrier though, everything on it is still like new!

Theres enough space in my 90 CSW and its fixed to the bulkhead so it cant bounce around.
Total cost some leftover studding and some old wheel nuts.
Picture on my sig is before I realised it was killing my rear door.

Any one got a 235 on the bonnet and can you see over it/round it, do you just get used to it.??

Ive got a cheap rear door mount on mine, with a 265/75 16 on it and its fine. There tougher than people think they are, my landrover has been pushed along by its spare wheel against the back door befor. And ive had people use it as a climbing aid to get to the roof rack. :mad2:
