they were ,how did they build them lr dont want the hassel of bearing replacement for several reasons ,time and difficulty for the dealer fitters ,but changing the bearings in hub is no different than most cars has been

Fair enough. The problem I had was the previous owner had replaced the original wheels with 22" stormers and had been checking all the local kerbs integrity out. This had led to my rear near side hub seal leaking and the beginnings of a bearing rumble.
Whilst replacing the hub seal I inspected the hub and found the bearing to be a little worse for wear with signs of water ingress.
I pressed the bearing out at work and the hub looked like it had seen better days and maybe my aircraft engineer best solution habit took over and on balance for the £200 I decided it was a safer bet for me.
The needless faults I've rectified have been numerous but on a positive note its a sound set of wheels so far. I could list the faults but I'm hoping the sound of the previous repairers spurs have almost completely gone now. Stupid things like refitting the throttle water jacket without any form of hermatite or gasket with an obvious coolant leak as a result. Lol

Unbelievable isn't it. Another belter is on inspection 3 out of 4 air springs had been replaced with brand new air springs. The 4th I've just done myself but why wouldn't you do all 4 if your doing 3. Replacing one or two I could understand but three it just shows at the quality of the maintenance.
On fitting said gasket I found it was still losing coolant and after 2 weeks of ownership ended up pulling the dashboard out to replace the dreaded water heater o-rings. I thought I'd replace the matrix as well and as everything else was functioning thought I'd leave the blend motors alone as I might just end up replacing all the components in the car.
Every thing has been fine but during the recent snow up popped the dreaded handbook sign.lol Well I still have heat in the vehicle so have no intention of stripping out the dash again. Hence with this track record it was the hub I replaced. Lol

I did a write up some years ago outlining the procedure and possible problems relating to replacement of P38 wheel bearings, gained from personal experience.
If anyone needs a copy, please send me a PM with your email address. I will mail you a copy (It's a Word document)
