I have just bought a set of tubed HD land rover rims (wolf rims). These are fitted with 750 Michelin xzl tyres. These wheels came from a TD5 defender 130 which will have been capable of far higher speeds than the 2.25 diesel series 3 they are going to be fitted to. .
I am in the process of painting them so have stripped them down myself and when I am finished will rebuild them myself as well. Having stripped them down only one wheel had balance weights, which were removed for paint, but I obviously cannot balance them myself. At Series speeds do I need to get these re-balanced when I have finished or is it not worth it for the speed and weight of the rim and tyre? This is the only part i cannot do myself so don't want to spend the money if I don't need to.

I would expect with such large tyres you'd feel any inbalance just past pedestrian running speed.

+1 for getting them balanced. money well spent for safety, comfort, and less NVH for all the steering components.

The vote seems to be to get them balanced then. I was unsure as I know as wheels and tyres get bigger there is less need/less possibility to balance them. The HGV's at work do not get theirs balanced and they did not seem to suffer but they are modern trucks not an old land rover.

I have a lump hammer, two lasts and an anvil welded to the front near side. The off side rear has been OK since the cyclists helmet got wedged in it and the other two could do with a couple more horse shoes.

My white finger is coming on nicely.

Seriously I have never seen so many weights on a wheel as mine. The tyres must be well out.
