just want to get in before Saint.V8 rolls up with his 14,000 miles to the drop of LPG!

my 4.4 V8 l322 is running 13mpg average, anyone getting much higher?

thinking maybe it's time to learn how to take apart & clean an engine,
 
Seriously as low as that? Is every member on this a millionaire? I'm still interested in buying but was hoping for at least 20 :crazy:

(1.339 per litre of petty - 0.749 per litre of LPG ..... 1.339/0.749 = 1.787 ..... 15.5mpg x 1.787 = 27.69mpg )

Although I do my calculations slightly differently

I do mine against what I would be saving opposed to running a diesel, because I wouldn't run a v8 if I didn't have LPG

(1.39 per l of derv - 0.69p LPG here.......1.39/0.69 = 2.01......15.5mpg x 2.01 = 31.15mpg)

I may get roasted for it but that's my way of thinking :D

Sorry to go slightly off topic guys (punish me for being a noob) but say I buy a 4.6 hse for a 1000, is it still viable to get lpg fitted even though its more than the price of the car? I know your gonna say it's your own preference but could there be any problems with doing this? If there is s thread for this could someone push me in the right direction and I'll go away with my tail between my legs :rolleyes:

Yes because it's not about the price of the vehicle, it's about the price of running it.

Depending on how much you use it the LPG kit will pay for itself in a year.
Also you can get cheaper installs than 2k

A decent Mulitpoint LPG system will set you back close to £1200-1800 fitted with certificate and registered on the LPG Association register (some insurers need this!).

LPG does burn a tad hotter, which can be an issue on the Rover 4.6 V8 as they are prone to slipping liners. But keep the cooling system up to snuff and be meticulous on maintenace and they can prove no bother...

LPG is less efficent than petrol by about 15%, but is 40-odd% of the price :D

Yeah, about 20 mpg on petrol, and just over 13 mpg on lpg.

As Deasy said, it's the cost of running the vehicle, not the vehicle worth. The conversion should pay for itself in a year (actually, this depends on mileage), and should add some value to the car (£500 - £1000), depending.

How I work out if its worth an LPG conversion.

I get LPG at 69.7ppl and get 13.4 mpg on this, so in 20,000 miles it costs me £4749.514.
I get Petrol at 1.339 ppl, and get 20 mpg on this, so in 20,000 miles it costs me £6087.044.

So the difference is £1337.53

A decent LPG conversion would probably stand you at £1800, and would likely add £500 to the value of the vehicle, so I would need to drive 20,000 miles to recover the cost.

TBH, I would be very unlikely to keep any car that long. I change my cars as often as I tax them, so it wouldn't be worth it for me.

With that in mind, I paid for a vehicle already converted. So any depreciation will be just from the vehicle, and not from the conversion.

So then I am left with above calculations, which puts me at 25.74 mpg when comparing with Petrol, or 26.70 mpg compared against diesel.

Except that isn't right either, as if I were to run a diesel, I would be running 50/50 diesel/veg oil. Which means I would be looking at a 22.0033 mpg equivalent.

Which is probably lower than I would expect if I were running a diesel, so its costing me more to run LPG than to run my preferred veg/diesel option, but then again, I am driving a big V8 petrol, so it's worth it.

Of course, I do have a 100 mile daily commute just now, so I just bought a 1.9 diesel Polo for this. The average consumption for which, according to Fuelly, is 55 mpg, so with my 50/50 should be equivalent of 66.75 mpg. Then again, my 335d averages 5 mpg more than the average because of the nature of the commute (all dual carriageway), so assuming I can average 60 mpg, this is the equivalent of 72.81 mpg. That'll help make up for the 26 mpg equivalent from the RR, and 37 mpg in the 335d.

Our L322 on tow with a twin axle caravan 17.8 to the gallon on petrol

Normal running around never below 15 to the gallon

On a run on the motorway 24 not loaded up ! This was recently !
 
My job means I work all over the country, I've averaged 18mpg over the last 3,000 miles but lately I've been doing more mixed urban than usual, if I'm doing mainly A-road and motorway driving I get 21-23 mpg brim to brim. P38 4.6 Thor.
 
I have Td6 and I'm getting 23 mpg calculated on mileage and quantity but the car says 25 mpg , that's mostly town driving with a once a week 80 mile round trip up the motorway thrown in
 
Driving like Miss Daisy doing around 56 MPH I'm getting around 21-23 MPG. Which isn't bad on the flatulence fuel (gas). Towing a horse box or ****ing off the Boy Roys at the traffic light grand prix can half that. I've also got an old 2000 Omega Elite which I've just converted to LPG. Did all the work myself then got it registered. All in it cost me 900 quid. I used a Stag multipoint system. It took me near on 45 hours garage time having not done one before. A few places I got to quote to do it said it's around 25 hours labour to fit. Had loads of fun mapping the LPG. Now that's a fine art. Got it set up now on a self learn set up, so even now it still flicks back to petrol from time to time to improve the map. If you are very handy with the spanners it's doable. Doing it myself and the mileage I do a year in the Mig it will pay for it's self in 10 months. Good thing with the P38 is suppliers are more geared up to offer a complete kit and you don't have to make it up like I did on the Omega.

Mine is a 4.6 thor. I get around 21 on a good run, around 16 tootling. I do around 20K per annum & with LPG currently being 67.9 p/ltr at Morrisons it's great...V8 sound & power on Deisel running costs.

PS. Mine is a Tartarini Sequential...fitted since 2005 (as soon as the LR warranty expired).
 
On my 4.6 P38 (no LPG) I have a yearly average of 22.10L/100Km or 12.78mpg.
The worse I did was in town with 33.2L/100Km or 8.51mpg, the best I did was 17.78L/100Km or 15.89mpg on Highway.

I fortunately do not drive a lot with it with, according to the soft I use to track my consumption, and only make 5,444Km/year 3382.745miles and for a total of 1,200£ a year for me in Japan. Basically I fill the tank one a month at most.
 
For comparison, my P38 diesel has a long term average from brim to brim logs of 24mpg mostly mixed highway & town, up to 30mpg on the auto routes.
With diesel coming in at about £1.07 a litre here at the moment and no worries about slipped liners, I'm happy.

Oooo datatek, what's the average price of petrol and LPG in France at the moment? On coming over for a couple of weeks in August just wondering for my cost calculation :D

Both the p38 and l322 have good reliable engines if a tad underpowerd
Im getting18mpg out of my p38 diesel sounds bad but its all city driving (leeds) with traffic lights every 50feet and a heavy right foot. on a motorway run that goes up into th 30s
Same driving style in a 4.6 got me 11mpg around town and around 26 on the motorway

Just filled the MR2 up after it passed the MOT:), 98 octane is €1.515 a litre:eek: compared to €1.249 for diesel.:D
By August it could be anything.
