hi all,
my Freelander looks a lot higher at the back than my mates-his is a 2001 TD4 and mine a 2003Td4

the gap between the top of my rear wheel and wheel arch is a lot bigger than his and we are both unladen with no cargo...same size wheels and tyres!

I found an old receipt that just says "2 springs renewed"..
is it a possibility that the small country garage put too big a spring on and that's what's causing my transmission whine perhaps?!

I wouldn't have thought higher springs would cause transmission whine as even if the body of the car sits higher or at an angle because of different springs, the whole drive train will still be level and at the same position relative to the road, dictated by the road wheels.

As for the springs themselves, just a guess but perhaps you have some form of heavy duty or off-road springs on the back.

The dimensions including the height should be in the manual and also on many websites with vehicle specifications eg wiki pedia.
In my manual (came with 52 plate TD4 S) overall height including roof bars is 1808mm (5 ft 11.2 inch) for a 3 door. and 1828mm (5 ft 11.9 inch) for the 5 door. If the replaced springs give it a firmer rear end (Jennifer Aniston eat your heart out) I would be interested to know the brand as I think the Freelander in general pitches and rolls quite a bit. See my (tongue in cheek) posting entitled " My Freelander makes people sick" Cheers !!
