Anyone tell me what this is leaking now I think it is where the drive shaft goes in on the near side.

Is there a seal there or something?

Expensive fix?

Thanks its on the near side/passenger side of the engine. No idea how long it has been leaking for. Its in the garage tomorrow so am going to get them to sort it. Is it about an hours labour or is that overkill?

0,5-1Hrs i think

They need to remove driveshaft from hub and gearbox. Then replace seal and mount it back together. New driveshaft nut required, driveshaft circlip, and of course new seal.

Both final drive seals have been done on mine , L R parts were £31 42 each  and was charged £84 00 labour for one of them  will never use them again ( non L R garage )

The oil seals should last years. Check to see how much play there is in the output bearing. If the bearing has lots of play then fitting new seals will be a temporary fix. Play in the bearing is the cause of the seal Leakage. The bearings fail because the inboard CV joint wears causing the bearing to be overloaded.

how much!
I am sure the spare i have in my toolbox was about £15...i might be wrong

Also may be worth checking it's not cv grease as doesn't look like you have a clip securing that boot to me, could just be my eyes but worth checking before you strip it down!

Pretty sure it has a zip tie on there but will get the guys to check. It's going in for a rumbling noise/ vibration thru seat (not steering). U think this could be connected?

Those boots can sometimes leak with the correct metal clip so a tiny zip tie won't be doing much good.

Unlike a lot of CV joints the inner ones on a freelander move in and out a lot.

Does it vibrate a some motorway speed or as you accelerate?

Is it a td4?

Hi I am fairly sure the vibration is at all speeds. Yeah it's Facelift TD4.

I will have to check the gaiters all round then are they all the same clip? Anyone know where to get them from?

Could be so many things causing the vibration including the inner cv joints. Worth checking.

I would think a quick eBay for cv clips will bring some up that will work well, don't forget to repack with grease.

Wanted to mention that the td4 seems sensitive to drive shafts and many, myself included, have had issues with aftermarket parts. GKN or LR is a must
