I have a Prima 109 Ser 3 camper, parabolic springs and 110 seats and doors. For a few days camping shes great.

But I'm going to be looking for a daily drive 40 mile commute plus other normal running around, so whats the best bet?

Funds would be limited to around £3k and for that I need something that's mechanically sound etc

I have looked into a 200tdi in my current landy but don't like the idea of chopping the chassis around.

A 200tdi in a swb could be an option?

How about a ex military 90 with a 2.5 N/A engine (how slow could they be)

I like the idea of a disco but they do seam to have a lot of problems (and rust)

RR, as above but the bits cost more?

So whats the best bet, or should I just get a KA and dark glasses :)

Thanks Andy

OK I'm all ears.... Hows it done?

More to the point whats it like to drive??

Thanks Andy

not finished yet, but turbo is on and mounted engines in and i rearrly need to start a thread on it lol

roughly you have to turn the turbo over 180 degrees so it angles up not down avoiding chassis this puts the exhaust forward and intake side at the back, then you take the turbo into 3 pieces compressor unit, bearing unit and intake side, rotate the bearing unit (middle bit) the other way so correct the oil flow, so you have pressure going in at the top and the oil return at the bottom again, then you take the intake side remove the huge circlip and re position in a place where you can fit hoses, on mark and redrill holes for new wastegate postion, this means its abit near for a decent flow on the the intake as a 90 bend is too sharp angle so you cut the corner out the footwell and weld in a patch giving u better flow angle, thats roughly how ive done it so far :)

i think im the first to have tryed this method and its not finished yet but thats how im doing it

Disco 300tdi, nice and comfy, 30mpg, great in snow, all older / cheap motors will have rust.

Spend half the money on the motor and keep half for repairs etc when needed.

Gotta agree, this would be your best bet, just be really careful when checking the chassis/body.

get your self a 90 with a 200tdi disco engine in it.... best motor iv ever had

but what ever you get its not going to be as good as mine :p:p:D

daily drive ..............has to be a diesel freelander 1 . cheap to buy, good on fuel, no rust, great looks and reliable.

Totally standard 2 and a quarter diesel Series III.

And I have one :p! I do about 1,000 miles a month! Just could do with some TLC to make her run better.

I would agree with the freelander NEVER thought I would say that but 60 miles is a long way every day, I would like a bit of comfertability going that distance every day. DO NOT GET THE 1.8 PETROL it is crap.

Do yer wanna arrive warm, dry, comfortable and having spent a reasonable amount on fuel, or do yer wanna arrive with a fookin huge grin on yer face?
That is the question.

I know I'll get flamed for this on here but I'd question whether or not you really need a Landy for commuting?

If it were me, I'd buy an old generic diesel car to run into the ground for a couple of hundred quid, it'll be a damn sight more comfortable and quiet, and when it becomes uneconomical to repair, scrap it and get another!

But that's just the sensible answer really. I'm not knocking anyone who does commute in their Landy, but if you're buying something purely to get to work in then it doesn't seem too sensible.......

Actually scrap what I just said, fit the 200tdi and be done with it!

Only one lot of insurance/tax etc then,

Numerous people have fitted them to 109's, and there seems to be hundreds of different ways of doing it, you've had one already been posted, I'm going for using a 300tdi manifold in mine which is mounted higher up, have been told about an issue with it clearing the wing but clocking the turbo sorts it apparently - there's a thread up in the Series section!
