Hi all

I've been forced to put my Landy on the market - it's been a project for me for the last year and a bit - I've done loads to it and I was wondering what everyone here thinks it would be worth putting it up for.

It's a 1992 Defender 200tdi with about 150k on the clock.

Here's a list of everything it's had done....

Engine...
Cambelt replacement
Disco Donor Transfer box (1.4 ratio)
Disco Donor Gear Box
New 60amp Alternator
New Starter Motor

Steering...
New Drop arm
New ball joints all round
New track arms and rods

Running Gear...
New Swivel balls (teflon type) and all related components
New CV joints
New stub shafts (front end only)
New wheel bearings (all round)
New tyres (235/85 A/T)
New radius arm bushes

Chassis...
Rear cross member overhaul

Internal...
MUD dashboard upgrades (defender dash and MUD Pod)
Turbo gauge
Volt gauge
7" touch screen DVD player with iPod control
carpeted throughout (I know, I know! Here comes the abuse! ;-) )
Centre cubby box
Rear reversing camera

External
Has been sprayed matt black, but needs doing again, and bodywork needs cosmetic attention.
Rear windows limo black tinted
Rear windows internal security grills
Rear door additional security lock

That's about everything I can think of right now - I bought it for £2000 April 2008, and I guess I've spent about £2000 - £2500 on it so far. I'd be happy to get my money back, which would mean putting it up for about £4000.

Is that a realistic amount considering what I've done to it to date?

Thanks!

Nope!!

Unfortunately the number of people who make a profit on their vehicles is extremely low.. Buying a motor vehicle is a ****e investment. Have a look on Ebay & Autotrader and see what similar aged vehicles are fetching. New parts rarely increase the value of a landrover. Lack of them can be used to reduce the sellers price But that's about it. If I had to guess at a price! Not having seen any pictures I'd say £3250 if you were really lucky.

Trouble is, for £3k I'd want a 200Tdi to be near perfect, including a reasonable paint job and with nothing left to do to it, cosmetic or not ... or it should be reasonably well-sorted for off-roading with most of the kit but again, without needing anything to be worked on!

For that money I'd also want a full MOT on it and hopefully taxed for a fw months ... ;)

Darkcyde, these are just people's opinions.

In this current climate, I would advertise for how much you need for the car plus 10%, as this extra value will inevitably be reduced by the prospective buyer.

If you seriously expect to get your investment back, you'd have to break it. Then you may surprise yourself and get more than you hoped for. However it would be a shame to break something that's roadworthy. As it is £2000 sounds right.

I paid £3.5k for this off ebay last year. These are the actual piccies from the listing.
