Bought our first freelander y reg 2.5L auto full house from very honest chap "bring any mechanic will pass any test" with just happened to have an engine that needs drastic repairs, head gasket plus much more that went straight over my head, just got worse and worse. So I thought, why not ask the guys who know their Landys, what would you do now

providing he didn't tell you about the faults, take it back and he has to refund you your money its the law, a sold as seen agreement isn't worth **** in a court, for the headgaskets to be done on a KV6 engine your looking at the sharp end of £800 at a garage if anyone will touch it ( loats wont as its a bitch of a job)

ok here is the quick story, Live in Inverness, car advertised gumtree glasgow, first to see it and phoned. Told it was immaculate. 3 hour drive so he said he would not be wasting our time. Arrived glasgow 10 that night. Vehicle looked great He then said we must take it on a long drive as he did not believe running round the scheme would show us the real car.

this is part 1 more to follow

part 2

We paid for it, left glasgow @ 11 that night half way back I was following in our rover 75 when the thickest blackest tornado of smoke came out the exhaugst. This was 2 in morning. We managed to drive very gingerly back to inverness. Next day phoned the guy, he was shocked.
But no help
The gear box underneath was "sealed" with silicone, The radiator water had a very stange colour to it. If idleing top pipes soon became red hot lower pipes cold

I bought it beginning of June, Have only driven it from Glasgow to Inverness, I thought buying privately no come back. You are right about mechanics dodging the work, my 2 freindly mechanics said either sell it on to someone else, which I wont or trade it in. I can say it is the cleanist Freelander around as it just gets washed! But I really have to make a decision. But it looks sooooooo nice. I am also from Zimbabwe and we grew up up Landrovers so I am very disapointed to have bought on with nearly every fault going. Oh by the way as you can tell I am not mechanically minded, just wash them well

1st month trying to get freindly mechanic to come see, but always too busy, then changed the water pump, went on holiday for month, came back beginning Sept and 2nd mechanic gave me the truly good news. I knew it would be bad but now wonder if buying a recon would do the trick

pick up a scrap one cheep and swap engine ?????? and put a diesel in it

if you get a cheep scrap one, you have parts to sell on and you will have a good weight left for scrap to get some cash back
