HAHAHAHAHA by the time you's figured out A where the key goes, B: how the immobiliser works, C how to start it, D: figured out that there's no arm rest and E: theres no where to plug ya Ipod. I'd have done me shopping and be back at the landy... :D :D
 
I want one.

Im not sure why I want one, or what Id do with it, especially as I have nothing on me roof, but I want one. Kinda like the light guards... I just *want* them.

I voted under £100, two reasons: firstly Im a bit of a peasant/cheapskate! And secondly you can get landy ladders of varying size, type and quality off eBay from between £30 and £120. Allways seems to be for defenders or discos, cant seem to find any for freelanders though! :(

Problem with them is theyre mass made for the defender and disco, and therefore cheap! For some reason, not so many freelander owners want to modify their cars, although thats probably cos defender owners modify theirs to make it more like a car in the first place!

If i can get 10 names with some commitment, i can go to £110 delivered inc. VAT, but i'm literally making a fiver on them at that price! If i got 10 names however, i'd get 15-20 made which may enable me to bring the price down by a tenner or so. Problem is, with setup time and wages the way they are for skilled workers these days plus steel costs, nowt is cheap!

OP, if you want to make a product for Freelanders there is a market for it despite what the tratterboys will say. There seem to be an emerging Freelander enthusiast community in Europe. Go for it mate!

I drive a three door K series... #### wit. :scratching_chin: Face palm?...

why, other than being short or lacking in gumption would you need an access ladder? i manage to load sleepers, field gates, cls [studwork timber] and a four meter scaffold tower [but admittedly not at the same time] on top of mine plus general building/joinery/gardening tools on mine ... ;)

See I knew you gaylanderers wos stoopid.. :eek: If you'd dismantled the scaff tower it's have been a lot easier to get it on ya roof rack :p :p
 
Reet, i've got some prices back, and they go as follows...

Ladder will be in design of Safety Devices one, with a zinc primer and polyester powdercoat finish (its more expensive than just painting it, but means it won't start rusting under the paint or wont rust if it gets a slight chip). Kit will include the Hex threaded extensions and 2 bolts to bolt the ladder into the Hex extensions. The steps will also be covered in a grip tape type stuff, incase they actually get used...

List price would be £150 inc Vat & Delivery

Forum members price would be £135 inc Vat & Delivery.

I can only offer 10% discount on these, as the material and other external costs are so high, i've no control over them. But they're still cheaper than Safety Devices sold them for, and that was 10 years ago when material and labour costs were a heck of a lot cheaper!

I've ordered enough bits for 10 sets, i'm keeping a ladder as a demo for myself, so there's 9 available. Had some interest on other forums, so first come first served and all that.

Payments can be via PayPal, bank transfer or cash if you pick one up.

Couldn'd do that to you in a Freelander. You wouldn't need to open the door in a defender, you could just chuck your shopping in through the door gaps:D
 
Just another thought (occurred when I looked at the spare) are the wheel mount fixings on the door going to be strong enough to hold a 14 stone bloke climbing all over it or does the ladder rest on the car when door is closed, thereby having extra suuport?

in all seriousness, the ladder doesn't rest on the car per-se, there are 2 curved sections, 1 top 1 bottom which rest against the side of the tyre to stop the ladder flexing too much which will create strength as there's then no flexing loads acting on the bolts. The 2x 12mm bolts are more than capable of holding my/your weight, as is the boot i believe (the side hinged nature of the boot helps it in this case). The size of your tyres will depend how tight your ladder would sit against the tyre. The spare wheel carrier should also not have a problem holding the weight, as long as nobody is silly and trying to jump around and use the ladder beyond what its designed for then there should be no problem at all.
