So, as some know, I bought a FL2 in June and was going to sell my FL1, then talked myself out of it as I use it for work and had no need to sell it...

Anyway, back in June when I was thinking of selling it I said I'd happily take £4k for it...

So, I put it up for sale a week or two ago to test the water and see what the market was like and any interest...

Tonight, out of the blue, a guy from Hampshire starts making offers on eBay and we end up negotiating up to £4k subject to me putting a fresh mot on it, so I've agreed to that (its due end October ish anyway).

But now I'm in a pickle, I've had the car coming up 2yrs, its been a cracking car, reliable, only things that have gone wrong are things that I've helped make worse (clutch while green laning), and its largely ideal for work although a bit short on length. However I'm a little bored with it and fancy something else anyway, and I'm a bit reluctant to use my FL2 for work, although the temptation of spending the 4k on a Maggiolina, roof rails, a few toys and a long holiday for next year is quite high!

I know its my decision, but I've given myself a headache thinking about it

Yeah I know that, its obviously all dependant on the MOT results too, it shouldn't fail, but you never know

There's a few conversion options out there that's been turned into vans profesionaly, I know what you mean about short tho why they didn't commercial the solidmtop I'll never know..
One I saw was a kia which looked decent, freebie 2s but they expensive, disco etc?

I've already got a Freelander 2 lol just don't want to ruin it using it for work full time, not that my FL1 is ruined, just using a 4k car as a daily is a bit easier than a 12k car, and the parts are a heck of a lot cheaper too!

So many car options going through my head, D2, e39 5 series, e46 3 series, another e36, m3, old defender, get a van or be sensible and just run the 1 car, but yeah, I'm stumped!

Yep 4k limiting with commercials isn't it unless ur buying older than uve already got most things are silly money

Wouldn't a van make more sense? I wouldn't go for an old e39 touring for commercial use (probably my favourite car ever and one of the prettiest) I had a523i & 530d. Expensive to fix when they go wrong.

I'm considering a second hand Nissan Leaf for work myself.

Maybe it's just me but buying a vehicle is a big deal, it involves loads of searching, going to look, trying to raise the cash, bucket loads of scepticism, more than a dash of paranoia

I know how I'd feel if I'd been through the whole process and got as far as agreeing terms and the price only for the seller to say "I'm not sure I want to sell it now....."

Yeah I don't want to mess the guy about, although he did say it was a total impulse buy last night lol

Must admit it happened to me a few years ago, went to Bedford to buy an MR2 turbo, drove it started negotiating, agreed a price, started counting cash, then he said I couldn't take it now as had nowt else to drive, was a 250 mile trip too!

Was actually looking at the renault electric vans too, would be ideal for work as most journeys are small, plus I'd score a fortune in expenses

E39 would be lovely, been looking at various 530's and 540's, would do for small stuff but nothing massive, I like the space and versatility that my Freelander offers, and the fact I can use it year round, which is why I was looking at D2's, but reliability concerns me!

So, guy has just pulled out of purchase....

He was going to get a guy to pick the car up with a trailer, but turns out the guy can only pull 2 ton, so would be well over the weight limit, and as he's always working away, he can't get here himself for at least 2 weeks (he was going to buy the car unseen but with a fresh MOT and bank transfer me the money)

Sold my silver Td4 on Ebay. Winning bidder then asked if they could pick it up the end of the month. As it was the beginning of the month I said no. He then said he would give me an extra £100 if I held on to it. Then an earlier potential buyer said he missed the end of the auction and would match the winning bid and collect by the weekend. 5 weeks and countless excuses later and I still have the Freelander.
Negotiated a price on a Defender 3 weeks ago. Only had to get the money from the bank. Seller pulled out as he had decided to keep it.
Doesn't matter which end of the deal you are on , either as a seller or a buyer, if the other party pulls the plug it's still a really annoying.
The Freelander is going in for it's MOT next week. Once it passes it will be back up for sale. I've sold it 3 times now already to people who have never even viewed it before placing bids. Now that is frustrating. This time I'll sell it via different channels.Ebay is full of time wasting w&nkers.

Yeah I hate that, I tried gumtree first but not a single bite on there, just lots of dodgy texts from various companies!!

I think this guy was sincere though, he bought the car legit through eBay, then after lots of phone calls this morning cancelled, he has however given me £50 as well as agreeing to cancel the sale for my inconvenience, so for that I think he was genuine!

Ebay is great for purchasing a LOT of things, but I don't think the cars are in that category. I was in the car business for about ten years, and I never buy a vehicle before I can test drive/check out. I still buy and sell frequently, and for fun. But not for living. Too many things can go wrong on Ebay, and it's not easy to return the item if it's wrong (in the case of the car). I see some "deals" on Ebay all the time (sold prices), and I'm tempted, but I know better. One guy's "mint" condition, is the other guy's "good" at best (not even to mention mechanical condition).
Boards like this are good for selling AND buying, if one can find one within his driving distance.

This forum is great for selling Defender's and such like I think, not so much Freelander's!!

Bought mine from eBay it's never missed a beat maybe I got lucky twice

totally different to buying a car, but I brought a maf for my first freelander did not work so the guy said send it back which I did waiting for the refund still and that was about 8-9 years ago lying sod said he never received it back stupid me did not send it recorded but I did put a curse on him lives in wales one day I WILL call around. but I still never trust ebay but some of the rules are different now more on the buyers side which if you are the seller is bad.
BUT still waiting for a answer of Jesus .

eBay have improved a lot over the last few years, much fairer for buyers and sellers now

it's back on eBay now, so we'll see if it sells, if not, back to my original plan and strip it out and make it a work van/camper
