Got a Husky 8 today with wire rope on it, looks to be in decent condition to be fair to it but I'd prefer synthetic as it just seems to be a safer option, maybe not as hardy but safer if it snaps!

What would you suggest, upgraded steel rope or synthetic ? I know its not as good on rocky ground as steel but odds are I'll be using most in mud/snow/floods to recover people :)

Yup

Synthetic

You WILL need a proper hawse for it, and the husky is a 4 bolt affair, not a 2 bolt like every other winch.

Goodwinch sell them for the husky.

I also have a bow rope and correct hawse for a husky which I'll be getting shot of shortly.

Synthetic all the ways lighter, floats in water, safer, and less chance of splinters

Didn't think about it splintering :p

But yeah should be a better option I reckon

Hmmm how much for that then :p not in a huge rush, need to finish exams and putting the series together first

You should have waited before you bought your husky evil.
Mine goes on the bay soon, with another complete for spares and a bow motor fitted!!!

Will you let me know when you come to sell them, please? Not had good luck with winches lately ...

I bet yours will go on auction for far more than I'd want to pay though ;) and its way down south :p

Mine was £155 ready to use with a proper remote control unit not one of the cheapo ones, only thing it really needs is a synthetic rope to make it perfect for my use, I suppose bowmotor would be nice but not needed

If you want to sell the rope by itself let me know as I could use it

Course I will.
You'll need a different bumper for a husky though, its a different mount pattern to a normal winch.
Of course, I do have the bumper off my RRC which will fit your disco.

The RRC is on ebay at the moment, and has met reserve, so as soon as i've seen the back of it, I'll start going though everything else!

You got a bargain for 155.

Make sure you change the oil and grease, and use the right stuff!!!!

Came with the mounting tray too, looked online and they're expensive  Mounting Plate

Plus proper HD fairlead too!

The control unit is similar to this

Lodar Radio Remote Control

Will get some BP stuff and red grease, BP is stamped on the plate and red stuff is what I can see on other forums, presume its just red lithium grease

pm will4x4 on devon 4x4 forum last time I spoke to him he was going to be supplying plasma rope at sensible money dont know if anything come of it though

No choice. Got to be synthetic. Lighter to free spool out. Lays down if it breaks rather than whiplashing. No shredded hands on split wires.

If it's the one that ended on ebay about 2 or three days ago the remote isn't a lodar. Is it a blue hand control, rectangular in shape with in, out and emergency stop buttons, a belt clip on the rear and powered by a 9v battery?
