What to look for in a L322

As I said before £2k on a card is a bit daft, insure against big inevitable bills with a tailor made warranty.
I have owned mine now for 2 months and it would have cost close to £2600

Brake discs n pads all round
2 front suspension airbags
2 front dust covers
Wheel bearings
Drivers door lock
Radio pixels
Refurb the wheels
4 new tyres
Full on service
And new heater regulator

I have paid for some but about £1600 warranty from AA and warranty direct, who confirmed if the engine goes I pay £25, if the gearbox goes I pay £25, AA If I break down and its about a £500 fix they do it, so suspension each corner as an example.

I too have a credit card but would rather use it for dancing girls and internet dwarf porn.:dance:

Yeah but £1500.00 of that will have been labour costs. :D:D

Warrenty Direct are qouting £735,, Not shopped around tho.
 
Warranty goes on older cars too my 20 year old Escort is warrantied, as is all our cars which are all over 10years old (except wife's Mondeo).

£87 a year for AA £123 a year Warranty direct for 2004 L322 I have both and sleep soundly.
Escort is £57 on limited mileage and Stag is about £59 both with AA, when all and wifes mondeo and sons VW Bora are insured with same company for £502 a year its a no brainer.
 
f$%k it just buy one ,all expensive to buy, when new, cars with electronics and toys can cost a fortune to fix (mates steptronic audi tt £3000 for gearbox) if you use the dealers ,and some indies take the mick with labour costs, some decent spanners and a good socket set ,set of ramps couple of jacks ,diagnostic kit ,and virtually everything is DIY able ,as for the gearbox take your time and look for one thats been done already .
 
Just so I know, at which model year do L322's become better?

Seems like I will be keeping the p38 for quite a while..
 
well where shall i start..

i bought a 2004 / 04 4.4 petrol for £6k, 1108k miles and spent another £3k in 6 months, at least as i bought a pig but having never owned one i took a gamble.

my front suspension was shot immediately, check the air suspension adjusts up and down to all 4 heights, motorway will do it itself after a short time at over 60 ish. £450 for dunlop just for the front if you change yourself, also compressor and rear air springs possible fails

my clocks needed pixel repair, £100 if you remove it yourself

my leather was a bit ragged, £30 landrover specific kit to refurb, worked well.

heres a shocker, look up how to spot a dodgy torque converter , basically a rumble at low revs up slight incline £500 if you fit yourself, good luck, £1200 - £1500 for refurb box and TC fitted if you shop around, probably add another grand to that some places.
my box, cooler, stat and pipes and TC refurb come in at about £1k but its an epic job.

vanos death rattle on initial start, mine turned out to be an ill fitted oil filter, looks like i got away with it

my service history was totally fake, inspect the book as on closer inspection most of the mileage had been adjusted as someone must have made a cock up when filling all the services in at once.

tyres aint cheap, no surprise there, if you want nice P zeros budget for £200 a corner

engine breather pipes leaking oil and collapsed, check behind engine, ass to do but fortunately i did mine with the box out.

i'll probably think of more

oh yeah rear suspension bushes, check for uneven tyre wear and clonking, just doing mine today...

apart from that, i still love mine:)
