Had this old girl about 4 years now dont do many miles ..Its still got an MOT god knows how ..Steering brakes etc all good But she is rusty underneath..Now do I spend out for inner and outer sills body mounts a couple need reinforcing ..Boot floor would go again as its not that bad..Good points engine and boxes all superfine no crunching banging etc changes gear lovely ..Its only done a genuine 107K So Scrap it and buy another or get a quote for welding ? I would happily jump in it now and drive it anywhere in the UK with no worries

Keep it pal! Honestly , as said if its got a decent drivetrain
weld/do the work needed or possibly do a full body swap on it from a better shell

It depends... what would you replace it with?

Another D1? If so then IMHO it'd be better to weld up your own - you know its good mechanically, so if you get the body sorted properly, it'll last as long as you want it to. If you buy another, can you really be 100% sure that it won't cost you more to get into the condition you want?

If you're thinking of getting something different because you want a change, then I'd break it - you should get around £500 for the oily bits and maybe another £100-200 for the shell and trim etc.

Re-reading your original post, I'd even suggest getting a welder and having a go yourself if you're a decent handyman. I just bought (last weekend) a Clarke MIG welder on one of their VAT free days because I know that once I sort out one hole, I'm bound to find more that need attention - and it'll work out a darn site cheaper to do it myself! Just factor in the cost of protective equipment, wire and gas.

I have two mig welders here was a coded welder before I retired plus did many years welding motors self employed..Just age and aching joints putting me off.I do have another disco sitting here thats very good underneath just never got round to using it.Its leaning towards getting rid to be honest its just its been a good tool for me..It should never have passed its ;last MOT but there you go as said brakes steering etc is spot on..Might advertise it and see what offers come in but it would have to be sold minus the alloys and offroad tyres

Sell the D1 and buy a D2, make sure it's a 5 seater as these are on coils rather than the crappy air suspension. If there's any rust on a D2 chassis it'll be on the rails towards the back, easy to get to and repair if needed. TD5's are no more troublesome than any other landy engine, so long as you keep up the maintenance (as you would with any vehicle) it'll serve you well :)
