Hi All
I recently purchased a 2007 2.2 td4 HSE with 107K miles and full service history, It runs perfectly, no diff noises etc but the garage had to replace the rear subframe with a good used one and do a little welding on the rear of the sills before selling it to me. I have used the garage for a long time 30+ years and know they are reliable. Anyway I am thinking now would be a good time to drop the newly replaced subframe and give it a descale and some paint and also do the underside at the rear incl wheel arches etc which are scabby under the covers, maybe even drop the fuel tank and do a thorough job of it as I would like to get 5 years out of the car. Is there anything I need to be aware of as I don't have a ramp but I am mechanically apt, have rebuilt couple of series 2A's and can weld etc so am ok with the basics but not the electronics tbh
cheers

will

Hi,

A 16 year car with only 107k with full service history but need new subframe ? I doubt the service was done seriously ...
If the weelding that they done is not that perfect, you can get rust issue in the near future ...

I hope they give you a very good price for the car o_O

Unfortunately some Freelander 2s do seem to rust. Unless the rust is cut out and new metal welded in, it'll come back.

The rear subframe can be tricky to clean of rust thoroughly, as they rust from outside and in.
If you're planning on removing the rear subframe, then simply replace it with a predominantly rust free replacement. These are available from various sellers on Ebay, the least rusted seem to be those from the early Evoque, which is the one to get.

Hi,

To avoid rust, simply clean under the car, salty road in winter are never that good.
So keep it clean and you will avoid most the rust for many years.

ok thanks the garage did replace it with a rust free replacement so i will look up the procedures in the manual cheers
