HELP.
I am in need of some advice or help with my suspension as i don't know where to start in order to eliminate the problem.

This is what's happening.

My p38 is all over the place suspension wise.

One day i can start her up and all works well with the suspension pumping up nice and quick and the next it takes for ever.

Sometimes the suspension only pumps up one side making me look like i weigh ten tonne.

Othertimes only the front pumps up leaving me looking like im doing a wheeleeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I can be driving down the road and the suspension drops on one side.

If i go over a pot hole the suspension sometimes drops to the bump stops.

I can drive the car for a few weeks and have no problems but at the moment its a problem.

I have used the computer program to rest faults and found that the battery seems low after and i'll need a jump start even when the engine is warm. ( the battery is a year old)

Thanks to anyone who can help resolve this as i would like to keep the car as apposed to selling it off.

Mike,
Try using soap water to detect leaks. I'd bet my €s that you have a cracked air bag. Also note that cracks in these don't always show up or are only noticeable in some positions.
There are tons of threads on EAS problems, I suggest you take a look at those, to know where to start.

A duff battery can give rise to all sorts of problems, just because it is only a year old doesn't mean it's good. Also check the alternator is charging properly, if you only do short runs it may not be enough to keep the battery charged. The ECU's on the P38 need a good battery to function correctly.
Otherwise, as Rewmer said it could be a driver pack.

I'd third the driver pack suggestion. It seems that this is generally responsible for strange random behaviour.

Basically it controls the valves in the valve block so if it's playing up it can have very interesting effects.

Another cause might be bad electrical connections - I've just had some very bizarre gearbox issues, eventually traced back to a multiplug full of oil.

This site has a lot of information on the EAS: Range Rover P38/4.0/4.6 Common Problems and Fixes

Hi,
Thank you for reply.

Im using EAS diagnostics program by RSW solutions.
Running it on windows vista.
It does clear the fault when used but the mentioned problems soon come back.

Mike.

your battery needs 2 be 107 amp if its a diesel not sure about t petrol, start with t battery t 38 needs power for all the computers,if you have t amps get t battery checked but thats not always fail safe. i had a problem with mine it checked out ok but eventually turned out 2 be a dud.

All sugestions are considered ans welcome but what is the driver pack and where do i find it?

I think i'll go back to an old disco series1, loved the last ones i had as i found them very capable off road with just a few mods and were twice as reliable.

Mike.

So there you go, either you have a problem with the valve block, or, more likely, it's the drive pack.

The drive pack is in the EAS box under the compressor.

ah the joys of eas and p38 ownership :p

whens the block going porous? oh as soon as you fix the eas :p

whens the the block gonna be fixed? as soon as the eas goes tits up again :p

that's great news. you should put up some pics of the restored 2 door or are there still bits you want to do first?
