After driving all the way from Exeter to Kidderminster to buyer an 'excellent' series 2a, that, surprise surprise, turned out to be a well-photographed dog in dog's clothing, I found somthing interesting just a couple of miles form home...

I know that it's a '71 Lightweight that was rebuilt on a new chassis in '98, fitted with an SD1 V8 with s/s manifolds and pipe, heavy duty springs/shocks and has covered 4k miles since then, but I'm not sure what series it is and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Points of note which I'm lead to believe can give a clue, but seem to confurse me even more are :

No synchro in 1st or 2nd
Lights in wings rather than grill panel
twin tank fuel tap on seat box
blade type windscreen hinges rather the boxey type
Plastic 'switch' type window locks.
Chassis number 23600066A

By the way, the chap says that he hadn't cleaned or polished it since it was done and after a good wash and some new seat bases it looks rather good, apart from a few patches on the bulkhead.

Cheers,
Steve

I bought it last week - before I put the money back in the bank and was too chicken to take it out again. In fact once I had heard it, I capitulated on the spot and probaly paid over the odds for it, but what the hell, it does sound lovely.

Pics are after it after it has been 'prepped for sale' (washed for the first time in twelve years!)

It's now had a bit of a clean and although has plenty of signs of age and a few bulkhead patches it is amazingly solid underneath and quite straight. Also had a winch and overdrive.

it has 2 or 2a screen brackets (6mm metal not stubby ones) and cos lights are in wing must be 2a almost certainly 1969 (g reg) may be a h reg

Apart from the tail gate, it looks pukka to me fella, you just need to sort it out with a good set of rubber, and a nice matt green paint job :D

It looks great and I can empathise with you having just bought a 109 6cyl pick-up against my better judgement and without telling mrs CJ - i fell a little in love with the fine burble from the brand new exhaust. So nice after what feels like a lifetime of driving supposed refined diesel engines that still sound like taxis and routemasters.

Nowt wrong with the 6cyl fella, i had an ex RAF 6cyl light weight :D

I'm a great believer in 'if it sounds right or looks right, it is right' and even more a believer in 'if I like it and you don't, balls to you', so highly commend your 6 cylinder purchase (my last classic was a 6 cylinder GT6 and it sounded wonderful - not as wonderful as my v8, but cool nonetheless!)
