Hello everyone,

I have a 1995 Discovery 1 3.9, and I think it's about time to replace the shocks. I don’t go off-road often, most of the driving is on tarmac. The roads here in Greece are pretty rough, so I’m looking for something that offers a comfortable ride.

Any recommendations?

Budget?

Do you tow or have a fully loaded vehicle often?

You can normally get away with +2" shocks, they will give a bit more down travel off road. Rear springs could dislocate, you can either clamp the top of the spring or run dislocation cones. You might need extended brake lines too. Else just run standard length shocks.

I've found the ProComps to be a nice soft shock, good off road and on rough terrain, but more roll in the corners:

The Britpart Celluar Dynamic shocks are a twin tube, so good for towing/hauling. A bit stiffer, but good damping overall:

There are some adjustable damping shocks on the market, else you'll probably need to spring for something pricey like some Fox dampers to make a real step change from the Britparts.

Polybush also do 'comfort' grade bushes which might be worth considering too.

I have fox dampers on the disco and they are very good as mention. Another vote for KYB as mid-price replacements, I have these on the (said quietly) landcruiser with the standard leaf springs. No complaints about them, even on Kenya’s demanding terrain.

Probably worth saying the previous ‘profenders’ lasted 30K kms out here. One leaked and therefore stopped ‘damping’, the other doing all the work, decided to ditch it’s bushing.
