I've got 2 Springer Spaniels (Sam & Jack) - Gun Dogs - and 5 Ferrets.
I've had Ferrets for 30 odd years and never been bitten once - it's all down to how (and how often) you handle them!
SWMBO has got Giant African Land Snails - dunno, about 50 of the ferkin things - at least they're quiet and cheap to feed, but not much fun to play with!

Do you use a different ferret to clean each gun?

I did take one to work once, to pull a chord (followed by a cable) through a pipe under the roadway - worked a treat. There was mayhem when I took him into the office to meet the girls though!
