Hi there

Its me again, and before i continue im still doing the sills on my landy, only 2 months late lol..

any who...

I've attached a picture of a landy i passed the other week, its a beautiful

If i wanted to do this to my landy what would be required? i was gonna go back and get a closer look but its not been back (its near my pearents) and i was hoping someone here might be able to help... or even you reading this might be the owner of this landy???

Would it be a case of just replacing the springs and wheels btw im pretty sure it won't be that simple but im finding noting when i search the forums regarding this?

and one last question would this also be road legal.???

EG i know the spedo would be incorrect due to the new wheel size, and the headlights would be too high ect but could be just a simple alteration?? im unsure... its just i want that landy and to be road legal.

all this is as i want to buy a old 200tdi thats on its way to the scrap and do it up as a project as a offroader but one i can also drive onroad.

Regards

Wappy.

Very true i must say there is alittle part of me that want i for that reason too. i understand it would be not very practical on the road. but still i did fall for it lol.

I have to agree with jai. As an onroad car it's useless the ride will be awful with that much lift. and yu'd have to drive it round corners very slowly or you'd end up with it on it's roof. Same problem offroad too top heavy it'd roll too easily, too high you'd constantly be getting stuck while trying to drive under trees. 1st time you span the wheels in mud or on ice you'd snap the halfshafts and trash the diff.

I totally overlooked that ... probably case of "You can't see the forest for the trees" now im sat hear thinking about it the more im realising that its prabably not worth it... might go back to doing my original project off restoring a defender :)

Keep giving me bad points lol on why i dont want to do this lol

Pics not clear but could it have portal axles on to help with the height? Is it even a Disco chassis?

Getting something like this working correctly means doing some 'real' engineering, and if you're asking questions about it then you really, no really, don't even want to start ...

I went to Manby and watched the disco bigfoot clone fail the Mudrun miserably on at least 3 occasions it was just to big to be useful and once you've got massive wheels you just lose so much power and torque just trying to get the wheels to turn that they become muscle bound rejects A bit like olympic power lifters There great for a one off single lift but then they're fooked for ages and don't have the stamina or ability to do anything else. Look at worlds strongest man competitors they are all properly proportioned and good all rounders. and that's the line you need to take when preparing a landy.

Yeah we saw that too ... my lad thought it was great .

I prefer something I can use .. ;)

have a look at the website www.rikslandys.co.uk he's done portal axles and 49" iroc tyres , was in lro magazine a while back .
don't know if it's my taste or not .... i mean if i sat in it it would deffo make me cock feel bigger .... but would i wanna take the kids to school in it .....

to answer yr qs if i wanted to do this to my landy what would be required??

answer=a feckin shed load of wonga, and then even more wonga when youve finished to keep replacing parts as they break under strain put on all the movin parts

as above , 'nuff said , rik spent 15k on his and still spending ...............
portal axles , 49"irocs specially made gear for abs to still work , body lift suspension mods , wide angle props , uprated diffs and lockers etc etc etc etc plus a heck of a lot of labour ...
do ya really want to do all of that

and the divorce because swmbo finds out how much dollar you spent on it ! LOL
