2.5 Diesel

London to Cornwall today 60-70 mph using cruise control the whole way mostly 2300-2500 rpm 3000 on one or two steep hills.

Just me, a few bottles of Champagne and about 20kg of tools.....sadly

25 MPG, would expect a little better?

Not if you haven't checked your tyre pressures:eek:
Seriously, the dash calculation is rarely accurate, you need to do brim to brim to know what it really does.
Cruise at 50/60 and it will go up a fair bit.

Nothing dodgy with my maths calculating LPG comparisons but then again, i do love the fact alot of folks don't understand or appreciate LPG :D:D:D
PS. as far as i can gather, Diesels seem to suffer HGF & cylinder head failure with more alarming regularity than V8's:p

I did a trip to Cornwall and back last year with the misses + luggage - averaged 22 mpg according to my mileage log. So yes your diesel mpg looks a little thirsty. Given a distance of 275 miles each way and £1.31 for petrol and £1.38 for diesel - you saved the princely sum of £10.84 by driving the dirty smelly slow diseasal! (perhaps I'm biased!) :D

Rebuilt my engine new everything includine kent cam and top hatliners goes really well took lpg system off mpg bah when i put my foot down the v8 noise you get the leap away from the stationary and the no loss of water far out weights the 50mpg i could of spent buying a fuel wringer o and i work near a breakers and when you see perfect cars registered 2010 coming in because various failures then bring on the fuel and little niggles its the first car for years that makes me smile and love driving

After a 500 mile up t'north this last weekend got 19.5 mpg on computer and 18.5 by my calcs, mixed motorway and urban, 4 on board plus load area full. Never missed a beat, so quietly chuffed.

Did you put an H180 cam in? GEMS or Thor? What do you think of it? Ta.

Great........Thanks Steve........I feel really good about myself for new year, anyway I love putting plastic gloves on to "diesel up" :D

Only if they are overheated.
P.S. I forgot the cost of regular new plugs, leads, coils and gas filters not ot mention lambdas and the annual gas service which aint cheap none of which are required on a diesel, that knocks your cost per mile into oblivion. Oh, and diesel is over 10 centimes a litre cheaper than petrol over here and of course veg/bio is even cheaper not to mention the fact that I can use some of the 3000 litres of red I currently have ins stock in an emergency.:p:p:p

You tell em Keith. Bloody upstarts. :D:D

This is to all you guys with the 4.0 V's on petrol

I'm just curious as to what mpg u get urban, rural extra urban, iv never had any better than 15.9 before my engine rebuild and after and are there any tuning mods that would help to raise it, eg superchips or k&n filters,

Get about 15/16 mpg from my 1994 4.6 Hse on a read using V power 4 star and just got it converted to LPG which is well recommended as seems to do about the same mpg . Gas was 69p litre in summer but up to 75p now, even so makes for cheaper motoring! Wish I had done the conversion a year ago.
