When i got the 1999 car it came with an after market Pioneer radio which looks crap now and probably did when it was new. Anyway I would like to swap it back to the factory model but not sure who the OEM was for that model year. The CD changer in the back is also a Pioneer so has the previous owner gone to the trouble of swapping that as well?

Yup. Original fitment was Alpine that year... But a bespoke Alpine unit with non-standard pinouts and output levels (if you have the Harmon Kardon speaker system). You would need the original CD changer to make it work.

Why go back to original system? It was crap, and prob replaced for a good reason. Replacements are also prohibitively expensive.

Thanks Clarky. If I stuck with an after market replacement and kept the Pioneer CD changer would any pioneer radio work or do I need to be looking for something specific?

Tom Peers at Roverveiws is breaking a 2000 at the moment, picked up some bits off him today. Might be worth a shout, nothing wrong with my original set up.

I agree with most of the above, the alpine and clarion factory fitted kit do a more than adequate job. Sure if I through £5k at a new system I would see an improvement but that would be worth more than the car!!!

I tend to agree. The clarion job in my '97 is suberb. I can't imagine an Alpine being any worse so it does beg the question why someone removed it and replaced it with a pioneer system.
I'm not up for swapping the head unit and the CD changer so just need to find a compatable head unit that drives the changer. No idea where to start with this task:confused:

do a google of the bit you want to keep. the manual will probably be online that will tell you what its compatible with.
